Brian D. Morgenstern

Brian D. Morgenstern joined Buckland & Taylor Ltd. in 1974 and is presently one of three Principals of the Firm.

He has undertaken some of the Company's technically most demanding projects, including the award-winning conversion of the Belgo Suspension Bridge into a cable-stayed bridge (1985), and the replacement of the concrete deck of the Lions' Gate Bridge Viaduct with a wider orthotropic steel deck during short night-time closures (1975).

Mr. Morgenstern wrote the Company's specialized suspension bridge analysis program, SABER, and has played a leading role in the evaluation and load rating of 17 suspension bridges, including Lions' Gate Bridge in Vancouver, Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington, and Beauharnois Bridge in Quebec, using the Company's very effective "survey-and-analysis" technique.

His projects include co-leading the joint venture team that designed and built the award-winning Second Blue Water Bridge joining Ontario and Michigan, and the renovation of the First Blue Water Bridge. He led the conceptual and preliminary bridge design study of the new Peace Bridge.

He led the feasibility design and provided Design/Build assistance to the Concessionnaire for the Second Incheon cable-stayed bridge in Korea.

His publications can be found in the Company's publications list, including an award-winning paper on the Belgo Log Conveyor Bridge and the first successful correlation of measured and computed mode shapes and frequencies of suspension bridge ambient vibrations.
