World Firsts Since the company was founded in 1972, we have worked on many world firsts. One example is Vancouver’s Lions’ Gate Bridge on which our work dates from the inception of the firm. In 1975, the concrete roadway deck on the approach viaduct was replaced by a wider, lighter orthotropic steel deck during short night time closures. This innovative solution was the world’s first. In 2002, the entire suspended structure (deck, sidewalk, trusses and hangers) of the Lions’ Gate Bridge was completely replaced during night time closures – another world first. Awards With a significant number of Canadian and international awards having been presented to Buckland & Taylor and to many of our talented employees over the last 30 years, we prove daily that our passion for bridges is not only visible, but is recognized around the world. The Best of the Best Our work partners us with the best of the best in-house and in the international bridge building community. The John James Audubon Bridge in Louisiana, the bridge that will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America, is one such example. Working with our team gives us a variety of experience in local, multi-national and cross-cultural projects.
