The new three lane bridge has a 451 m (1480 ft.) continuous tied arch main span with girder approaches. The total length of the international crossing is 1.9 km (1.2 miles). It parallels an earlier bridge, and the three span tied arch configuration was selected to be harmonious with the existing bridge while not directly copying it.
In addition to the three main arch spans, there are six steel box girder spans, three on each side, ten prestressed concrete box girder spans on the Canadian side, and twelve concrete AASHTO girder spans on the American side.
B&T's Scope of Work:
Buckland & Taylor Ltd. (with Modjeski and Masters, Inc.) designed and provided construction services for the new crossing parallel to the existing Blue Water Bridge that spans from Sarnia, Ontario to Port Huron, Michigan.
