B&T developed the bid design for these four concrete structures, as well as the final detailed design.

The Province of British Columbia and the City of Chilliwack used the design-build method of delivery to develop a connection between and enhance the existing Evans and Ashwell Roads to improve the north/south transportation network within the City. Four bridges were required.

B&T's Scope of Work:

Buckland & Taylor Ltd., in association with Martens Asphalt (BA Blacktop) and McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd., developed the bid design for four concrete bridge structures. Buckland & Taylor Ltd. also completed the final detailed design for the bridges. They are:

  • Chilliwack Creek Bridge, a two-30 m (98 ft.) span continuous bridge;
  • Chilliwack Creek Diversion Bridge, a 27 m (89 ft.) single span skewed bridge;
  • Evans Road Underpass, a two-19 m (62 ft.) span continuous bridge over Hwy 1; and
  • Evans Road Overpass, a 15 m (48.5 ft.), single span bridge with an extensive deck flare along one edge.

All four bridges feature innovative hinged abutment walls to efficiently accommodate seismic demands.
