Bridge improvements for the Sea-to-Sky Highway before the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

The BC Ministry of Transportation undertook improvements to the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99) between Horseshoe Bay and Whistler to improve its safety and reliability before the 2010 Olympics.

Peter Kiewit Sons Co. was awarded the Design/Build contract and retained a design team including Buckland & Taylor Ltd., to design the required highway improvements.

B&T's Scope of Work:

Buckland & Taylor Ltd. prepared the detailed designs for the Cheakamus River Bridge, where the existing bridge will be twinned, and two new rail overhead bridges. The 72 m long, three-span Cheakamus River Bridge comprises steel plate girders with a concrete deck slab. The CN Rail Overhead Bridges are one and two-span configurations and each comprise concrete girders with a concrete deck slab.

Total length (Cheakamus River Bridge): 72 m (236 ft.)
Total length (CN Rail Overhead Bridges): 28 m (92 ft.) and 47 m (154 ft.)
