The Esplanade Riel (Provencher) Bridge crosses the Red River in the center of Winnipeg just downstream from the confluence of the Red River and the Assiniboine River.
It was designed exclusively for pedestrians, cyclists and recreational users. Some of the unique features of this bridge include an architectural composited tower that is prestressed and a cantilevered and stayed semi-circular plaza area at the base of the tower, which will provide space for commercial activities. The cast-in-place concrete box girder bridge comprises a main span of 106 m (348 ft.), a pylon height of 69 m (131 ft.) and a back span of 86 m (282 ft.).
