LNG SUSPENSION BRIDGE
Location:Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea Description:Overseas Bechtel, Inc. constructed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing, storage and export facility at Punta Europa, on Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea. The facility includes a pipeline suspension bridge from the storage facility to the loading facility. The suspension bridge has a main span of 350 m (1148 ft.) carrying the process piping, utilities and a walkway. It carries LNG in a 0.76 m (30 inch) diameter pipeline from the plant to the jetty through dense rain forest over a geologically unstable slope. The walkway provides access for operations personnel from the LNG plant to the jetty. Owner:Marathon Oil and EG LNG Co. Client:Overseas Bechtel Inc. Scope of Work:In 2004 Buckland & Taylor Ltd. was selected to provide detailed design of the suspension structure and its land foundations. The scope included the development of a preliminary erection scheme and the preparation of a construction schedule and cost estimate. The bridge was designed for ease of constructibility and, due to the remote location, to facilitate transportation of components to the site.
