ALEXANDRA BRIDGE
Location:links Ottawa, ON to Hull, QC, Canada Description:The Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge crosses the Ottawa River just east of Parliament Hill at Nepean Point in Ottawa. The bridge provides an important commuter link between Ontario and Quebec. It was built between the years 1898 to 1901 to carry, primarily, trains and trolley cars. In the late 1950's, the bridge was converted to carry vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic. The 566 m (1857 ft.) long crossing consists of steel trusses and trestles (from south to north). Client:Public Works and Government Services Canada Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd. performed a load capacity evaluation using section 14 of the new CAN/CSA-S6-00 bridge code. The scope of work also included a seismic evaluation and vibration analysis. The seismic evaluation is one of the first to be completed for a major bridge in Eastern Canada. Completed in 2002.
