BEAVER BRIDGE

Beaver Bridge

Location:

Prince George, BC, Canada

Description:

Road and rail bridge.

Total length: 348 m (1140 ft.)
Spans: 4 truss spans at 87 m (285 ft.)

Owner:

Northwood Pulp and Timber Limited

Client:

Brittain Steel Ltd.

Scope of Work:

To avoid the risk of ice and flood damage to falsework in the river, this road and rail bridge was built on the bank and launched into position by sliding out two spans at a time tied together.

Buckland & Taylor Ltd. designed the erection scheme for the Contractor. An interesting innovation was the use of rocker girders that automatically picked up the support of the bridge at panel points only and then released them as the truss slid past.

Completed 1981.
