HUDSON HOPE BRIDGE
Location:Hudson's Hope, BC, Canada Description:Built in 1965, this prestressed concrete suspension bridge crosses the Peace River. This two-lane bridge has slender concrete towers and a concrete deck with no stiffening truss. Total length: 328 m (1076 ft.)
Owner and Client:Government of British Columbia Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd. completed an evaluation of this prestressed concrete suspension bridge. Deficiencies were found in one anchorage and the bridge was repaired in 1992. Additional anchorage tendons were drilled and grouted into the anchor block from the inside chamber, and the load from one strand of the main cable was transferred to the new anchorages without releasing the tension at any time. In 2000, Buckland & Taylor Ltd. investigated the causes and complications of observed changes in bridge geometry and corbel cracking. Buckland & Taylor Ltd. designed the corbel repairs and provided selective inspection of the work.
