WILLIAM H. HARSHA BRIDGE
Location:Maysville, KY to Aberdeen, OH, USA Description:The William H. Harsha bridge is Kentucky's first cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is part of US6862, linking the AA Highway to US 52 in Ohio. Total length including approaches: 640 m (2100 ft.)
Owner:Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Ohio Department of Transportation Client:Traylor Brothers Inc. Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd. provided detailed construction engineering and step-by-step analysis of the erection of the towers and the cable supported superstructure. The analysis included the effects of cast-in stresses and deformations of the composite deck as well as creep and shrinkage of the deck and towers. The analysis was carried out using custom designed in-house software. Tower construction began in 1997. The bridge was completed in 2000 and opened to traffic in January 2001.
