FIRST BLUE WATER BRIDGE

First Blue Water Bridge

Location:

Sarnia, Ontario, Canada to Port Huron, Michigan, USA

Description:

The main span structure is a steel camelback, cantilever truss with deck truss and plate girder approaches. It was constructed in 1938. The total length of the international crossing is 1.9 km (1.18 miles) carrying three lanes of traffic.

Total length including approach spans: 1.9 km (1.18 miles)
Main span: 281 m (922 ft.)
Arch span: 480 m (1576 ft.)

Blue Water Bridge Authority/Michigan Department of Transportation

Scope of Work:

Buckland & Taylor Ltd. (with Modjeski and Masters, Inc.) designed and provided construction services for a complete retrofit, strengthening and deck widening of the First Blue Water Bridge. Completed in 1999.
