PATTULLO BRIDGE
Location:New Westminster, BC, Canada Description:The Pattullo Bridge was constructed in 1938 and connects the cities of Surrey and New Westminster. It carries four 3 m (10 ft.) traffic lanes and one downstream sidewalk that is approximately 1.8 m (6 ft.) wide. The bridge was formerly owned by the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and was recently transferred to the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority (GVTA, or TransLink). Total length: 1221 m (4007 ft.) Owner and Client:Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority (TransLink) Scope of Work:In 2002 August, TransLink commissioned Buckland & Taylor Ltd. to inspect selected components of the steel truss spans between Piers 0 and 9. In 2003 January, TransLink increased Buckland & Taylor Ltd.'s scope of work to include a complete inspection of the remaining components of the steel truss spans between Piers 0 and 9 and a live load rating of all deck system and truss members between Piers 0 and 9.
In 2004, Buckland & Taylor Ltd. provided construction support by filling the role of GVTA Representative and Structural Engineer for Phase 1 and contract administration and structural engineering services for Phase 2 of the bridge renovation works.
