SECOND ORINOCO RIVER BRIDGE
Location:Puerta Ordaz, Venezuela Description:The Second Orinoco River Bridge comprises a 3.2 km (2 miles) long road-rail crossing carrying four lanes of highway traffic and one rail line. It is 22.4 m (73 ft.) wide. The South approach comprises 23 spans of 60 m (197 ft.) and the North approach comprises 12 spans of 60 m (197 ft.). These spans were erected by launching from their respective abutments. The crossing of the main channel of the river comprises two back-to-back cable-stayed bridges, each having a 300 m (984 ft.) mainspan and two 120 m (394 ft.) sidespans with intermediate sidespan piers maintaining the 60 m (197 ft.) module. The cable-stayed spans were mostly erected by the balanced cantilever method. Owner:Corporacion de Guayana Client:Construtora Norberto Odebrecht, S.A.
