SECOND SEVERN BRIDGE
Location:Over the Severn River, UK, joining England and Wales Description:This crossing is just over 5 km (3 miles) long and forms part of the European Strategic Route Network. The navigation clearance is 37 m (121 ft.). The main spans are cable-stayed. Total length including approach spans: 5168 m (16955 ft.)
Owner:UK Department of Transport Client:Laing/GTM, an Anglo-French joint venture Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd. was specialist consultant to the Design/Build Contractor, for the prestigious cable-stayed bridge. We provided advice on design, aerodynamics and construction aspects. Strong prevailing winds and very high tides were major considerations. Completed in 1996.
