SIMILKAMEEN ORE CONVEYOR BRIDGE
Location:Princeton, BC, Canada Description:This suspension bridge carries 1600 tonnes of copper ore per hour 210 m (690 ft.) above the Similkameen Canyon. The Similkameen Ore Conveyor Bridge is entirely supported by a lightweight high strength network of cables for maximum cost efficiency. Main span: 404 m (1325 ft.) Owner and Client:Newmont Mining Corporation, New York Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd., in joint venture with Robert McLellan & Co. Ltd., designed the bridge, which is the world's longest span ore conveyor. Completed in 1980. Awards:It was the winner of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada 1981 Award of Excellence.
