SIMON FRASER BRIDGE
Location:Prince George, BC, Canada Description:The BC Ministry of Transportation sought four lane capacity on Highway 97 in Prince George. The existing Simon Fraser Bridge provided only two lanes. Buckland & Taylor Ltd.’s task was to identify the most cost-effective solution that would provide the desired four lanes. Owner/Client:BC Ministry Transportation Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd.'s investigation of potential solutions considered three twin bridge options and one widening option. In 2007 we identified, and the Ministry accepted, the preferred option as a two-lane, 400 m (1312 ft.) five span continuous plate girder composite delta-leg bridge to twin the existing bridge. The bridge includes one span over CN Railway, three spans over the Fraser River, and one span over Queensway Street and one sidewalk.
