TAGHUM BRIDGE
Location:Nelson, BC, Canada Description:The location of the crossing was dictated by the presence of an island. The bridge comprises trapezoidal steel girders with 290 m (951 ft.) main span and total length of 980 m (3214 ft.) to the west of the island and 340 m (1115 ft.) to the east of the island. Owner:Government of British Columbia Client:Brittain Steel Ltd. Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd. designed a barge mounted A-frame to lift entire sections up to 64 m (210 ft.) long weighing 127 tonnes (140 tons) over the fast flowing Taghum River. Completed in 1980.
