Vancouver Island Pipeline Crossing

Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Description:

The bridges consist of four suspension bridges and two truss bridges ranging from 49 to 117 m (161 to 384 ft.) in span and carrying the Vancouver Island Natural Gas Pipeline across deep river canyons on the East coast of Vancouver Island. The photo to the right shows the Chemainus gas pipeline suspension bridge.

Pacific Coast Energy (original owner, now Terasen Gas)

Scope of Work:

Robert McLellan & Co. - Buckland & Taylor Ltd. provided design and construction supervision of the following bridges:

  • Chemainus Gas Pipeline Suspension Bridge - main span 117 m (384 ft.)

  • Cowichan Gas Pipeline Suspension Bridge - main span 91 m (298 ft.)

  • Nanaimo Gas Pipeline Suspension Bridge - main span 117 m (384 ft.)

  • Puntledge Gas Pipeline Suspension Bridge - main span 104 m (341 ft.)

  • Campbell River Pipeline Truss Bridge - main span 49 m (161 ft.)

  • Koksilah River Pipeline bridges - main span 50 m (164 ft.)
