WHITE RIVER BRIDGE
Location:Yukon Territory, Canada Description:The White River Bridge is the first in the world to utilize friction pendulum isolation bearings to absorb earthquake energy. These bearings were chosen because of their ability to isolate the structure and absorb energy while being insensitive to Arctic temperatures. Total length: 200 m (656 ft.) Owner and Client:Government of Yukon Scope of Work:Buckland & Taylor Ltd. designed this bridge and provided project management and support during construction. This included reviewing erection and bearing and steel shop drawings as well as monitoring installation of the friction pendulum bearings. Completed in 1997.
